Lucía Luna-Victoria Indacochea (she/her) is a Lecturer in the Human Rights Studies program. She holds a Ph.D. in History with a Designated Emphasis on Human Rights from UC Davis.

Lucía’s current book project examines how shantytowns became a focal point of collective struggles for survival and basic human dignity in Lima during the Peruvian armed conflict (1980-2000). Her work traces the creation of the socialist housing project Huaycán, its mass mobilizations, and its leaders’ collaboration with the state in declaring war against the Shining Path. The manuscript illustrates the intertwining histories of urbanization and citizenship within a context of the armed conflict, revealing the motivations for political participation and the gradual disintegration of popular politics. Lucía’s research has received funding from the American Historical Association, the American Council of Learned Societies, the Mellon Foundation, the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, among other institutions.

Lucía has taught history and human rights courses at UC Davis and Illinois Wesleyan University.
